On January 9, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held the 2016 National Science and Technology Award Conference in Beijing. There were 6 achievements of Wuhan University got such awards, namely, 2 achievements undertaken by us won the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award; 4 participated achievements won the first prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the second prize of National Natural Science Award, the second prize of National Technology Invention Award, and the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, respectively.

The chairman Xi Jinping and premier Li Keqiang, Liu Yunshan, Zhang Gaoli, Liu Yandong attended the conference and presented awards for the representatives.

Professor Liu Quansheng from School of Civil Engineering at Wuhan University, led the project “The key stability monitoring and control technologies and the applications in deep tunnel (Lane) Road fractured weak surrounding rock" and won the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award. The project focused on the monitoring, simulation and control of the stability of deep fractured weak surrounding rock, put forward the rheological stress recovery method of the geologic stress test and the close solution analysis method, and invented the multi-directional compressive stress sensor; invented the real-time monitoring warning in the surface-internal deformation of surrounding rock; proposed the numerical and physical simulation system of the large deformation prediction and analysis of the surrounding rock; developed the step-by-step joint control technology and floor heave control technology of surrounding rock. The results of the project are now widely used in the deep roadway, traffic tunnel and national defense tunnel, and so on. The technical level of monitoring and controlling the stability of the deep rock tunnel in China has been improved, which bring a lot of remarkable economic and social benefits.
